If regular season was only 41 games…

So while bored at work, I decided to see if the NHL season was in fact half the length it is now (82 games, so if it was only 41) who would be playing who in the playoffs and who would take the division titles.

First we’ll start with the President’s Trophy; Detroit Red Wings.  Let’s not act so surprised.  They would lead the NHL with 63 points, a record of 30-8-3.

Here is a quick rundown of what we’d get with the rest of the league..

  • Western Conference Champs: Detroit Red Wings
  • Central Division Champs: Detroit Red Wings
  • Northwest Division Champs: Vancouver Canucks
  • Pacific Division Champs: San Jose Sharks
  • Eastern Conference Champs: Ottawa Senators
  • Atlantic Division Champs: New Jersey Devils
  • Northeast Division Champs: Ottawa Senators
  • Southeast Division Champs: Carolina Hurricanes

Playoff seeds would be as follows:

EASTERN
Ottawa Senators (1) vs. New York Rangers (8)
New Jersey Devils (2) vs. Boston Bruins (7)
Carolina Hurricanes (3) vs. Montréal Canadiens (6)
Pittsburgh Penguins (4) vs. Philadelphia Flyers (5)

WESTERN
Detroit Red Wings (1) vs. Calgary Flames (8)
San Jose Sharks (2) vs. Colorado Avalanche (7)
Vancouver Canucks (3) vs. Minnesota Wild (6)
Dallas Stars (4) vs. St Louis Blues (4)

And just because I put a lot of work into it, here are the conference standings if the season was only 41 games.

I try, I try. But you know how I am, I get a kick out of doing stuff like this lol Even if the Stars end up only being 4th and don’t win the division :(
I think we could take St. Louis in the playoffs though! BRING IT ON KARIYA!
