Hard-earned win…Stars 4, Canucks 3

That’s what I’m going to call this one, a hard-earned win.  It wasn’t the prettiest, but it was a win and 2 points that are greatly needed.  Goaltending was fantastic and the grit needed to win was there in everyone.

Scoring started a little under 16 minutes into the game when Trevor Daley, yes Trevor Daley, got one behind Curtis Sanford to put the Stars up 1-0.  Brenen Morrow and Mike Ribeiro took the assists.  Where was Roberto Luongo you might ask?  He was in Kazakhstan Florida with his pregnant wife.  Those ugly Canuck twins tied it with less than 2 minutes left in the 1st; Henrik with the goal and Daniel and Aaron Miller with the assist.

The 2nd period was all Stars.  Mike Modano got his name on the scoresheet with a goal over a minute into the 2nd, with assists from Niklas Hagman and Mattias Norstrom.  The Canucks and Stars traded off penalties throughout the 2nd, but Stéphane Robidas was the only one able to cash in on the power play with help from the 2 Mike’s; Modano and Ribeiro.

Stars took all the penalties in the 3rd.  The only scoring that took place within those 6 minutes of penalties?  Steve Ott with a shortie 7:29 into the 3rd, with help from Jeff Halpern and Stéphane Robidas.  The Canucks rallied in the last 9 minutes to get 2 goals; Ryan Kesler with a wristshot from Matt Cooke and Markus Naslund from Daniel Sedin and Mattias Ohlund after pulling their goalie.

It wasn’t enough, Stars managed to pull out a great win and a great start to the Canadian roadtrip.

  1. Patty (in Dallas) Says:

Otter decided just killing penalties wasn’t enough for him. Now he wants to score during the PK, too!

I also think it’s pretty cool that Robi and Trevor scored in the same game, since they hardly ever score.

  2. Caitlin Says:

    Yay, Robi!

  3. Jen Says:

I’m glad Otter is stepping up. And SO EXCITED when Robi scored!! It was definitely excitement I needed since my computer was on the fritz!
