Favorite Things: To return this weekend

May 30, 2008

I apologize for not keeping it up yesterday and today.  This week has been an extremely hard week due to certain events.  However, I will try to get my shit together and continue with the posts sometime this weekend.

Until then…

Trevor Daley signed for another 3 years

May 28, 2008

Little Trevor Daley is here to stay, at least until the 2010-2011 season.   The Stars announced today that he has been signed to a 3-year contract worth $6.9 million.

I, for one, am extremely pleased to hear this.  He was a great guy on the defensive end this season, especially with all the injuries.

Favorite Things: Marty Turco

May 28, 2008

Today’s edition of Favorite Things will revolve around one of the backbones of the Dallas Stars, Mr Marty Turco.  Yes, there is no team without this awesome beyond awesome goaltender.  This was the year he shook all those stupid monkey’s off his back; he proved he can play with and above those who are considered the best goalies in the league, he got us out of the first round, and managed to finally beat Detroit in the Joe.

Not only is he a great hockey player, but he is a great person all around.  He has his Stick With Reading program, teaching kids in the D/FW metroplex the great things about reading.

Of course, we can’t mention how awesome he is without throwing in the word Turcolicious.  Thanks Razor…

Favorite Things: $3 Player T-Shirts

May 27, 2008

Yet another early morning edition.  To follow up from Sunday’s post we will continue to the Stars Wednesday promotions: $3 Player T-Shirts. Yes, at any Wednesday’s home game, you could buy a player shirt for just a few dollars.  Of course, there was only one player available and it alternated between white and black.  I prefered the black myself.  A few of the players that were sold were Brenden Morrow, Mike Modano, Sergei Zubov, Mike Ribeiro and Philippe Boucher.  ]

Granted, they weren’t as high quality as the ones sold in the fan shops and the table we went to only had medium and extra large, they were still quite a deal.  It definitely helped to build my ever growing shirt collection.

Sorry there is no funny photoshop to go along with this post, I’ve had to deal with quite a few awful things tonight and I’m really not in the mood.

Favorite Things: Niklas Hagman

May 26, 2008

We couldn’t have this list without including Crazy Eyes Hagman somewhere in the beginning.  Because, let’s face it, he’s crazy.  When he’s on that ice he looks insane, like he had just escaped from a mental institution, complete with a crooked helmet.  At any moment, he looks like he could fire laser beams out of his eyes.

He had a career year, and was one of the Stars top goalscorers this season.  He also got his first career hattrick, but that’s for another edition.

He is a free agent this summer, so dear Baby Hockey Jesus, please allow the Stars to come to their senses and lock this crazy fucker in.

Favorite Things: $2 bobble heads

May 25, 2008

During the 2007-2008 season, the Stars introduced various promotion nights for home games.  One was $2 Bobblehead Monday’s.  Any game that was on a Monday, you could purchase a mini-bobble head for $2.  Each Monday game had a different player: Brenden Morrow, Mike Modano, Sergei Zubov, Mattias Norstrom, Jere Lehtinen and Marty Turco.

You could also get a stand shaped like an icerink to display these extremely frightening bobbleheads.

Favorite Things: Brenden Morrow

May 24, 2008

Another early morning edition of The Shootout’s Favorite Things.  And what better player to put first than the Captain, Brenden Morrow, also known as Morrownator.

This year Brenden Morrow took over this team as captain.  Last year with his wrist injury *mumblesvrbatamumbles* he missed half the season, and with the Stars being knocked out in the first round of the playoffs, he didn’t have much of a chance to really show what he’s capable of when it comes to leading this team.  This season he lead the team in goals as well as in the playoffs.

Then of course when the playoffs were over, we discovered that Brenden ended up playing the Red Wings series with a torn shoulder and a hurt leg.  Morrownator is hardcore, and this year he took the team on his back and lead them to the best playoff run in years.  The transition is complete, Brenden Morrow has taken over, and it’s well deserved.

Favorite Things: The Ice Breaker

May 23, 2008

So, despite the fact that it is almost 4am, I figured I’d go ahead and post Friday’s premiere edition of Favorite Things of Dallas Stars 2007-08 Season. These are in no particular order, but I figured I’d start with what starts every recent Stars season; The Dallas Stars Ice Breaker.

Almost every Stars player is on hand for autographs and pictures. It’s turned into one of my favorite events of every season and I look forward to it every September. Not only do you get to meet the players, but you get to meet some great fans as well. This last year the Havocs were out in full force with face painting and other fun activities.

Aren’t I adorable?

Hull and Jackson here to stay

May 23, 2008

Well, for another 3 years at least.  I must say I am extremely pleased with this.  They did a fantastic job this season, and they make a great duo; with Brett Hull being a former hockey player (one of the best ever) and Les Jackson knowing the business side.  They get the full view of both aspects.  I can’t wait to see what they do with this team over the next 3 years.

I recieved an email that included a link to this youtube video.   It’s quite a memorable one, so I suggest you watch it
