Favorite Things: Mo is Awesomest US Born Player Evar

July 28, 2008

It was only a matter of time before that record would be broken by Mikey Mo, and on November 7, 2008 when the Stars were playing the Sharks, it happened. Mike Modano scored 2 goals to make him the highest scoring U.S. born hockey player, overtaking Phil Housley’s record.

Then, on November 21, 2008, the Stars held Mike Modano tribute night; honoring his accomplishment. It was seriously magical and I still get chills watching the video.

edit: I forgot to mention, I’m proud he’s American.

Favorite Things: Mike Modano

What is there to say about Mikey Mo that probably hasn’t already been said a thousand times?  I mean, come on, he is the greatest American born hockey player ever!

Not only is he a fantastic player, but he is a classy player as well.  You won’t find any cheap shots from him!  He is also a classy person and such a nice person.  He even has his own foundation!

And let’s not forget the fact that he can skate at warp speed.  I’m definitely going to miss that flapping number 9 jersey when he decides to finally retire.

Favorite Things: Playoffs Intro

July 24, 2008

The Stars team managed to come up with some great intros this season, definitely the best yet.  But when it came to the playoffs, they completely outdid themselves, including smoke and fire as part of the experience.

This is a plain video of what the playoff video looked like:

And this is a video a fan took, so you can get the whole idea of just how amazing it was:

Great Great Video!!

July 24, 2008

While bored and searching YouTube for Stars videos I haven’t seen, I came across this gem.  It’s a video highlighting last season’s playoff run, though I only saw footage from the Ducks and Sharks games (which is fine with me).  The music and editing are fantastic.

The Off-Season: Day 49

July 23, 2008

Wow, can you believe it’s already been 49 days since the Stanley Cup has been awarded to that team that will remain nameless?  I do hope all of you are getting along without hockey.  I’ve managed to keep my life pretty full.

I went to development camp, which was a blast to see a bit of hockey again.  I keep going to the movies, I saw The Dark Knight Friday.  Everyone should go see it, now.  Call in sick to work, do whatever you have to do  JUST GET THERE!

Video games have also helped keep me entertained.  Currently I’m jumping between Mario Party and Zelda on GameCube to Final Fantasy X, Kingdom Hearts, Katamari Damacy, We Love Katamari and the various Guitar Heroes on PS2.  Of course, I am also playing NHL on PS2.  If that doesn’t take your time, I don’t know what will.

Netflix has also contributed to wasting time, currently providing me with reliving the 90s by watching Beverly Hills, 90210.

And of course, let’s not forget that Cowboys training camp starts Friday!!!!!

Favorite Things: Mark Fistric

July 23, 2008

Oh Fishsticks, I can’t believe I’ve waited so long to put him on this list.  His first game with the Stars (and in the NHL ever) was December 23rd against the Canadiens, and even then he impressed me.  He continued to impress through the playoffs.  He is a tough defensemen, and despite being rookie was able to keep up with our veterens, especially in the playoffs.

Not only is he a fantastic player, but such an awesome guy period.  Good ole Shrek.

Hei! We have a new Finn!

July 22, 2008

Okay, a new Finnish prospect, but YAY FINN!!   The Stars traded LW Richard Clune to the Los Angeles Kings for RW Lauri Tukonen.

You can read all the info on the Stars site regarding game statistics and not what, I’m just happy to have a Finn.

Possible move?

July 15, 2008

Before the season ended, I debated on whether or not this summer to move The Shootout to it’s own domain using the wordpress weblog platform. Since you are my faithful readers, I will leave this decision to you. More than likely it’d be something like “TheShootoutBlog.com” or something.

Opinions?
