Shoulda coulda woulda…

Ouch.  That one last night hurt.  Despite ample power play opportunities, the Stars managed to miss out on another point in the win column.  I know, it’s only pre-season, but I’m not the only one concerned.  You know Tippett is mad when he starts calling out specific players, such as Mark Fistric.

The penalties last night were insane, the total count being 146 minutes overall, and Chicago having 89 of those.  Yet, the Stars were only able to convert on the power play twice; Brad Richards unassisted and newcomer Fabian Brunnstrom with Richards and Robidas getting the assists.  They also allowed Chicago to score short-handed.

Something isn’t right, and it needs to be fixed.  Fast.  One game left before the games matter, and I have a feeling the players aren’t going to get any type of rest between now and then if they don’t start showing some improvement Sunday against the Oilers.  Something needs to happen.  Now.

The score was 3-3 at the end of the regular play, with James Neal netting the 3rd Stars goal from Avery and Petersen.  The Stars somehow managed to hold them off in overtime and it went to a shootout.

  1. James Neal shot first, tried a Jokinen but missed the net
  2. Dave Bolland went first for Chicago but went wide
  3. Chris Conner got it to the net, but Niemi was there to stop it
  4. Andrew Ladd got it past Marty to put the Hawks up 1-0
  5. Sean Avery, yes, they left it up to Sean Avery, shot but Niemi saved

and Blackhawks won 4-3.

Three Stars were

  1. Brad Richards
  2. Antti Niemi
  3. James Neal

In non-Stars news, well I guess ex-Stars news, Jason Arnott’s home caught fire last night.  Well, his outdoor cooking area.  Caused about $100K worth of damage but no one was hurt, thank goodness.
