What exactly is going on with the NHL All-Star voting?

If the trend continues, it looks like the starting line up is just going to be the Red Wings vs. the Canadiens, with a Flame and Canuck thrown in for good measure.  Is something wrong with this picture?  It sure seems so.

It was highly publicized that the NHL was looking into Canadiens fans using an auto-voting program to vote for their team to be in the All-Star game.  I get that, it’s the 100 year anniversary and is being held in Montreal.  The NHL vowed to go through and delete any votes that did not appear to have been cast by an actual person.  But why does it seem the Stars took most of the hurt from this happening.

James Mirtle at From The Rink posted the tallies after the first day of voting, and here were the Stars numbers:

Brenden Morrow: 24,455
Mike Ribeiro: 24,074
Marty Turco: 19,296
Stephane Robidas: 18,855
Mike Modano: 14,543
Sergei Zubov: 9,061

Here are the tallies as of 7:30 this evening:

I smell interference from a certain Stars player who may or may not possess an alligator.

Aside from that, I have no idea what’s going on. I hate the All-Star voting period, in theory, and I just find all of this ridiculous. It’s just one more way the League screws everything up.

The whole NHL is trapped in some bizarro alternate universe this season…

Clearly, it is Bettman’s fault and he needs to go bye bye :)

    Put Luds in charge! :)

Voting is crap for by the NHL All-Star Game and the NFL Pro Bowl. It shouldn’t be this way. 20 Redskins players lead a ridiculous amount of categories for the Pro Bowl just because of this mad PR campaign they had in DC.

I’m part of this group of hockey fans that gets together Saturdays and forces a sports bar to turn at least one of their TVs to hockey and we were JUST talking about this tonight. It’s crap. I like that fans can vote, but I don’t think it should be 100% their/our decision cause then you get players who don’t belong.
