And another one gone…

July 10, 2008

First Hagman, then Mittens: Now my dear little Winchester has signed with the St. Louis Blues.

I am extremely saddened by this, you have no idea.  NO IDEA!  What makes me even sadder is the fact that no one even reported it, Winchester just showed up on the St. Louis Blues roster.  :(  I WILL MISS YOU F5!!!!

Stars head home down 2-0

May 11, 2008

Being that it’s Mother’s Day, I’m going to keep this a tad short.

Despite a 2-1 loss to the Wings last night, it’s definitely not over.  The Stars looked like they finally hadthemselves together.  They played tighter, and managed to keep the puck away from the Wings a good amount of time.

I’m really glad Brad Winchester is getting some playoff time now, he played extremely well against the Wings last night.  Jere Lehtinen left the game with a leg injury, and they used Eriksson on the Morrow-Ribeiro line.  Again, how many times are we going to try this combination?  It’s never really ‘clicked’ like the Morrow-Ribeiro-Miettinen line did.

The lone Dallas goal came from one of the top players this playoffs, Stéphane Robidas.  And extremely fitting that 2 of the other best players got the assists, Brenden Morrow and Mike Ribeiro.  Marty Turco, yet again, was great.  It’s really saddening that with his great play, he still has a 0 in the win column at the Joe.  Fistric was a healthy scratch, and they played Niskanen instead.  I was a tad worried, because Niskanen hasn’t been the best in the playoffs.  However, he really impressed me.  I guess the healthy scratches for a few games gave him some insight.

In other news, Brenden Morrow’s wife, Anne-Marie, gave birth to 2 bouncing babies today.  A boy (Brady) and a girl (Mallory).  (Info thanks to Heika)

Liveblog: Final game of the season: Stars vs. Sharks

April 6, 2008

Pregame

I figured with it being the last game of the season, one last regular season liveblog will be good. Okay, but why is Razor holding his mic like that? Wtf? I love them talking about the young guys, Fishsticks is so awesome. Yes oh yes he is. And what do you mean “if they get IN the series?” FISHSTICKS BETTER BE IN THE PLAYOFF SERIES RAZOR!

1st period

20:00: Of course, Marty is the getting the start. Come on Marty, let’s kick their ass.

19:32: Eriksson got a nice shot on Nabokov, which he stopped. Boo.

18:18: Winchester and Barch are playing on the same line. Lundqvist was on the starting line up, so I assume Richards and Ribeiro are both still out.

17:27: Otter is back after leaving the game Friday barfing. Ew.

16:05: Brenden, I love you. But let’s not turn the puck over to the Sharks.

15:47: Holy shit, good job Turco. He stopped 2 quick shots in a row.

15:30: Lehtinen is apparently out. But Mittens is back with Morrow, Ribeiro is still out. Modano is playing center on that line again. Jere has the Flu.

14:15: WINCHESTERRRR, awesome hit on Ozolinsh.

14:00: Someone is taking a penalty, and Barch starts talking with McLaren and Winchester comes over and he and Shelley get into it. McLaren apparently loves Barchie, seeing as he’s trying to undress him. San Jose taking a penalty! WOOT!!

Playoffs, here we come

March 30, 2008

Despite the fact that the Stars lost 3-2 in a shootout, they officially clinched a playoff spot with the point earned. So at least that’s a plus, and at least it was an overtime loss which is better than straight out losing. Brad Richards looked good in the shootout. Good boy Brad.

The damn Refs were awful to the Stars in the first 2 periods. Absolutely awful. Stars goals were scored by Mike Modano (from Morrow and Lehtinen) and Niklas Hagman (from Toby Petersen). Turco managed to grab the 3rd star of the night, and he totally deserved it. He made some amazing saves, and definitely kept our team in the game.

I think it’s pretty safe to say we’re going to be seeing a lot more of Anaheim come mid-April.

I also promise I’ll get the player pages updated soon. Until then, enjoy a picture of the cute mini-mittens I made for Caitlin for her birthday.

Liveblog: Stars vs. Colorado

March 8, 2008

Colorado is the 2nd team on my “I hate you” list. I’m not fond of them whatsoever. Today is the first of a home-and-home series between the two teams, and it’s sure to be two good games, well I hope so anyway.

Let’s not suck today Stars. Especially after the week I’ve had.

1st period

Just for the record, both Ralph and Razor’s suits are the color of shit. Not attractive guys. At all

20:00: They start with an odd line, Richards-Lehtinen-Ott. Okay, so it’s not exactly odd, but it’s a line I wasn’t expected to see. I guess trying to mix it up. Oh god they have Norstrom and Niskanen together.

19:15: Mo is out with Mittens and Hags. That’ll be interesting! I guess they just mixed up Richards and Mo.

18:40: You know, the only good thing about Boucher being it out is that both Fistric and Grossman get to play. Granted, I’d much rather have Boucher play because he is made of awesome, but I know they won’t sit Norstrom so our two young fantastic D-Men can play.

17:40: ahhhhh Jeff Finger!!!!! I wish I could remember why I hate you. But stay away from Brenden or I’ll come up with a new reason.

17:10: They kept Petersen up apparently, AND WINCHESTER IS PLAYING AGAINNNNNNNN. YESSSSS!!!!

Stars lose to determined Coyotes, 2-1

March 7, 2008

I am going to make this short, not because I’m lazy but because I spent the last night in a hotel due to ice in the area and am just tired.

All I can say about it, is like the previous game, the other team played with a determination the Stars were unable to match.  Peter Mueller scored in the first and Shane Doan in the second.  Brad Winchester cut the Coyotes lead in half with a little over 2 minutes left in the second, and I’m sure everyone knows how extremely excited I was about this.  And I do mean EXTREMELY excited.  Stars were unable to get another one past the awesome Bryzgalov.

We got Matt Niskanen back, and boy did he turn over the puck a lot.  Please let him get out of this.

The three Stars of the night were

  1. Ilya Bryzgalov
  2. Shane Doan
  3. Brad Winchester

And what is even worse, is on his first shift Boucher took a bad hit on the boards and is now out another 3 weeks with a shoulder seperation.

YES WINCHESTER!!!!!

I can not even put into words how excited I am that Winchester got his first goal of the season. Oh how I have waited for this. I was just excited enough to see him play period. But to have him get a goal? I can’t express it.

He deserves his own post, that loveable giant.

Just a few quick notes

March 3, 2008

Since there is no game until Wednesday (Geezus what am I going to do?) here are a few things going on with the team.

They had their 3rd and final Dr Pepper Luncheon series today with assistant coach Mark Lamb, Trevor Daley and Marty Turco. I’m assuming it went well….

Mike Ribeiro had x-rays today on his elbow because it had swelling. (You are now officially shitlisted, Tootoo) That is no bueno. MMM Bueno. Anyway, because of this they put Toby Peterson on re-entry waivers so they can call him up just in case Ribeiro is unable to suit up Wednesday. I am not a happy camper. Peterson is pretty good though, I was very impressed with him in the preseason. Here is a small video from the Iowa Stars website about him…

(Ps. Iowa Stars? I expect a Stars Talk w/ Chris Conner soon.. YOU HEAR ME?! I’ve gone too long without seeing him and it’s starting to upset me)

Also, you should watch this video of Brenden and his wife giving a tour of the new house they are having built. All I have to say about this is whatever. I’m sure we all know my feelings. The house is pretty though.

I also forgot to mention that Saturday was Brad Winchester’s birthday. YAY WINCHESTER!!! You such a giant.
