Liveblog: Stars @ Sharks 11/08/08

November 8, 2008

Hey what is this?  A liveblog?  I figured why not!  Since a lot of people might not get to see the first part of the game.

Check back here at game time!

PREGAME

They’ve got Bob Sturm in studio with Ric Renner, Mr. Hair with Mr. No Hair.  They talk about stringing 2 wins in a row, and how the Ducks and Sharks are the two teams we knocked out of the playoffs last season. (Wow really?  I had no idea.)

Now talking of Russian, that will not make him happy.   They mention that against the Sharks, Marty is 20-7-1-4, so things are looking up.    The ford Trivia question is  “Who has the most career assists against the San Jose Sharks?” with Lidstrom, Modano, Sakic and Selanne being your choices.  We’ll see who the answer is.  And now they’re running the segment on Richards that I have now seen about 50 times.

Razor is interviewing Mark Parrish.  He seems like a nice man!  I like him, especially after last night.  And Joe Sakic wins the battle with 47 assists against the Sharks.  Time for Sturm’s last night (talking about how Marty Turco needs to be a brick wall) and LET’S GET THIS SHIT STARTED!!

1st Period

Ralphie’s tie doesn’t really match his suit, and it bothers me.  In other news (not mentioned on the broadcast), Lehtinen is still a no-go for tonight, Richards is in.

20:00: First up is Otter-Richards-Eriksson.  And my feed looks a little green?  I guess for Stars morale?  Thought it seems to be straightening out.

19:00: Modano out with Parrish and Avery.  Unlike the first line, the Mo line actually got it to the Sharks end.  This is where we need to be guys.  Harder for them to score 5 from that side.

19:33: Ribeiro is out with Morrow and Fabi again. And are doing much better than the first 2 lines, as they should be.  Being that they ARE the ‘top line’.

17:31: and Marleau is leaving after being hit with a puck I believe from another Sharks player.  That sucks for you.  Especially with no Cheechoo.

And I just read on Heika that the Sharks fans boo when the word “star” is said in the national anthem. And people say we’re disrespectful?  First booing the O Canada, now this?

The Mittens Revenge

October 28, 2008

This is what I am going to call the game tomorrow.  I was very upset (but not as upset as Caitlin) when we got the news that Mittens signed with the Wild.  Mittens had a lot of talent, and showcased it well while on the PBC line (for those who are new that is the Ribeiro-Morrow-Miettinen line, Peanut Butter Cup line, if you will).

Now, the Stars are struggling and Mittens is flourishing, leading the Wild in goals with 6.  He also has 3 assists for 9 points, that’s more than a point a game pace right now.  All I have to say is good for you Mittens, good for you.  I knew you had this in you.

So Minnesota is in town, and it will be the first time Mittens will be seeing his old team, his ole buddies.  It’s the first of four meetings between the two teams tomorrow night at the AAC.  Last season, the Stars were 3-1 against the Wild.   What’s funny is the game winning goals against the Wild last season were all from people no longer playing with the Stars; Stu Barnes, Antti Miettinen, Niklas Hagman.

Let’s hope that the few days of rest and golfing helps the Stars to relax a bit and get back into their fine form we saw a bit last week.

In other news according to Heika, Lundqvist is going to be out 4-6 weeks with a shoulder injury.   Andy Moog was also out working with the goalies again today.

Liveblog: Stars vs. Blues 10/16/08

October 16, 2008

Hello everyone.  I am here for the first Shootout liveblog of the 08-09 season.  As I said in a previous post, the Stars are in St. Louis tonight, coming off a much needed and deserved win against the Nashville Predators last night.  Let’s get this shit started.

PREGAME
They are doing a story on Stu being an assistant coach, I’m pretty sure I saw this on Stars Insider, but that’s okay.  I do not mind watching it again.  (Dear lord please don’t let my laptop die before I find somewhere to plug this thing in in the living room.)  This is my first liveblog on this laptop, so I am enjoying being able to lounge on the couch while blogging.  I guess I kinda got off subject, didn’t I?  Stuie looks so proud of his Traverse City plaque, which the Stars won.  Because they’re awesome.  Aw they are going to talk bout Boo-Boo!! Yay Boo-Boo.  They are previewing the goalies, Marty and Legace.  I love Legace, well, not tonight.  But otherwise I like him.  He was so awesome last year in the All-Star game, all five-foot-nothing of him.   HELLO RALPHIEE!!  I do wish they’d fix this IFB stuff, because the delay is a tad annoying.  AW LUDY JUST CALLED HIM BOO-BOO!  I love it.  Why they have to mention Russian being out, because that is not something I want to be reminded of.  Injury update….oh boy.  Jere Lehtinen (groin) and Steve Ott (undisclosed) did not make the trip, uh oh.   Ludy is a big fan of the injury policy, in that other teams don’t automatically know what injured certain players, I agree with you Ludy.  Because I know personally that if Brenden had injured a foot, I wouldn’t want everyone going after that certain foot as soon as he’s back in the line up.   At least I have a cat to entertain me during breaks.

1ST PERIOD

20:00: I will use this time to say that…no one wins the tie battle.  They are both equally awful.  Let’s get this game goin guys!  Opening line is Neal, Modano and Crombeen.   D-men are Grossman and Robi.

19:00: Next on the ice is Eriksson, Morrow and Ribeiro.

18:48: Neal takes an interference penalty.  Whatevs.  He is too young to interfere with anyone!  Blues have the number 1 PP so far.  Wow, after a whole week.  You must be proud.

18:28: Boucher lost his stick! OH NO!  Got it back but now only has one glove!  DO NOT HURT HIS HAND!

17:50: I have a weird love for Kariya, I don’t know why. BUT I HATE PLAYING HIM.  GET THE PUCK AWAY FROM HIM NOWWWW.

16:48: Penalty Killing is getting back on track…

16:20: Some Blues player got really close to getting a goal, but it went behind Turco and past the net.  Thank goodness.

16:00: BRUNNSTROM IS ON THE ICE YAYYYYY

Stuuuuuu is officially retired

August 28, 2008

Luckily, it won’t be the last we see of good ole Stu, he has signed a 2 year contract to join No Lip Tipp’s coaching staff as assistant coach.  Stu played 16 years in the NHL, and will definitely be missed on the ice!

The other good news is the Stars also extended associate coach Rick Wilson and assistant coach Mark Lamb’s contracts to 2010-2011.  Rick Wilson was responsible for our awesome penalty killing skills last season.  You know, the one that made us number 1 until the VERY LAST GAME AGAINST THE SHARKS when they stole it.

So, I’m not even sure what to say

May 13, 2008

Stars are now down 3-0 in the series after a 5-2 loss last night.  Only 2 teams in the history of the NHL have come back after going down 3-0.  As much as I love my team, I don’t see that happening against the Red Wings.  Granted, I’m still praying for a miracle.  The Red Wings team is a far too skilled, puck-possession team.  (Do you know how much it pains me to say that?)  The injuries that have plagued the Stars all season aren’t helping either.  While we were able to get through a few, having Lehtinen, Barnes and Boucher out at once, well we are definitely feeling that.

The Stars started out strong last night.  Nicklas Grossman scored his first NHL goal ever 15 minutes into the 1st period.  Unfortunately, his goal was bookended by goals from Datsyuckie.  Brad Richards managed to tie the game back up 3 minutes into the 2nd, but Jiri Hudler gave the Wings another lead less than 10 minutes later.

In the third period, Jitterbug gave the Wings a 2 goal lead with a short-handed goal just 1:33 into the period.  Pavel Datsyuk finished up the night with a hat trick, making the final score 5-2.

Liveblog: Stars vs. Sharks – Game 4

April 30, 2008

It’s been a while since I’ve liveblogged, figured this would be a good game to do it. I actually got home just in time, so let’s get this started shall we?

18:44: Sharks get a good little scramble in front of the net, but Turco being his awesome self sweeps it aside.

17:52: Fishsticks got a nice shot on goal, but it went just a little wide.

16:11: Michalek gets a hard shot, but Turco is awesome and stops that too. Good boy Turks. They are going on about his awesome save percentage in the playoffs.

15:55: Some NICE passing gets Lehtinen right on net, but Nabokov stops it. Fake russian has been pretty good!

15:40: HEEEE Josie Grossie got a NICE hit on Jumbo.

14:52: Hey it’s Toby! With Stu being out from that hit yesterday, Petersen was put in. He’s been out since Zubov has returned so they can dress 7 defensemen.

14:30: DON’T HIT RUSSIAN ROENACKER!

14:11: Are you serious? One little push and Setoguchi and he goes flailing on the ice. Okay, so it wasn’t one little push. But Modano is taking a penalty.

Liveblog: Final game of the season: Stars vs. Sharks

April 6, 2008

Pregame

I figured with it being the last game of the season, one last regular season liveblog will be good. Okay, but why is Razor holding his mic like that? Wtf? I love them talking about the young guys, Fishsticks is so awesome. Yes oh yes he is. And what do you mean “if they get IN the series?” FISHSTICKS BETTER BE IN THE PLAYOFF SERIES RAZOR!

1st period

20:00: Of course, Marty is the getting the start. Come on Marty, let’s kick their ass.

19:32: Eriksson got a nice shot on Nabokov, which he stopped. Boo.

18:18: Winchester and Barch are playing on the same line. Lundqvist was on the starting line up, so I assume Richards and Ribeiro are both still out.

17:27: Otter is back after leaving the game Friday barfing. Ew.

16:05: Brenden, I love you. But let’s not turn the puck over to the Sharks.

15:47: Holy shit, good job Turco. He stopped 2 quick shots in a row.

15:30: Lehtinen is apparently out. But Mittens is back with Morrow, Ribeiro is still out. Modano is playing center on that line again. Jere has the Flu.

14:15: WINCHESTERRRR, awesome hit on Ozolinsh.

14:00: Someone is taking a penalty, and Barch starts talking with McLaren and Winchester comes over and he and Shelley get into it. McLaren apparently loves Barchie, seeing as he’s trying to undress him. San Jose taking a penalty! WOOT!!

That a boys..

March 30, 2008

I love that I wait until an hour before our next game to post a recap from the game yesterday. Of course, my yesterday was extremely full because I spent all of yesterday morning at the car dealership purchasing my new vehicle. (Which is totally awesome btw)

So anyway, the start of my day went well; it was up to the Stars to make it finish as it started. Thank goodness, they did not disappoint! Their last win was March 9th, and 20 days later they got their second win of the month. And it was a well deserved win. They played hard and it showed.

Not only did we win, but we won by 5 points with the final score being 7-2. Goals were by Stéphane Robidas, Brenden Morrow, Stu Barnes, Niklas Hagman, Jere Lehtinen and Loui Eriksson got 2 goals. Robi also got 2 assists, Norstrom got 2 assists, Mike Ribeiro had 3 assists and Brad Richards had 2. Mike Modano, Trevor Daley and Jere Lehtinen also got an assist in the game.

It was definitely a team effort and it paid off. Good job guys! Now let’s keep it going tonight against the Ducks.
