Stars take on the Wild

November 26, 2008

Tonight, the Stars will be facing the Wild for the second time this season, but the first time in Minnesota.  The last time these 2 teams met, the Stars gave the Wild their first regulation loss of the season with a score of 4-2.  The Wild have won one of their last three games, while the Stars have only won one of the last seven.

More than likely, Matt Niskanen will be playing after being a healthy scratch the last two games, he always seems to play well against the team from his home state.  Parrish and Petersen are also from Minnesota.

Cross your fingers, y’all.

5-2 Hawks, Stars to take on Boston

November 1, 2008

Young Patrick Kane helped lead the Chicago Blackhawks to a 5-2 win over Dallas.  The Stars played good in the first period, but once they lost their lead, they went back to their old ways.  They started panicing and making stupid mistakes.  The game could’ve been a lot worse, Stephan did a great job keeping their goals at 5.  I was really hoping after their great gameplay Wednesday, they’d play better last night.

Tonight the Stars are in Beantown taking on the Bruins.  They met one time last year, and Dallas got the win 4-1.  The Stars have beaten the Bruins 11 times out of their last 13 meetings.  So I’m crossing my fingers.

Stephan in net tonight

October 31, 2008

Looks like Stephan impressed Tippett well enough to get the start tonight in Chicago against Happy Goalie.  I kind of expected this, start Stephan tonight then go with Marty tomorrow against Boston.  They did this a lot when we still had Smitty.

The Stars were 2-1-1 last season against the Blackhawks.  Go Stars!

The Mittens Revenge

October 28, 2008

This is what I am going to call the game tomorrow.  I was very upset (but not as upset as Caitlin) when we got the news that Mittens signed with the Wild.  Mittens had a lot of talent, and showcased it well while on the PBC line (for those who are new that is the Ribeiro-Morrow-Miettinen line, Peanut Butter Cup line, if you will).

Now, the Stars are struggling and Mittens is flourishing, leading the Wild in goals with 6.  He also has 3 assists for 9 points, that’s more than a point a game pace right now.  All I have to say is good for you Mittens, good for you.  I knew you had this in you.

So Minnesota is in town, and it will be the first time Mittens will be seeing his old team, his ole buddies.  It’s the first of four meetings between the two teams tomorrow night at the AAC.  Last season, the Stars were 3-1 against the Wild.   What’s funny is the game winning goals against the Wild last season were all from people no longer playing with the Stars; Stu Barnes, Antti Miettinen, Niklas Hagman.

Let’s hope that the few days of rest and golfing helps the Stars to relax a bit and get back into their fine form we saw a bit last week.

In other news according to Heika, Lundqvist is going to be out 4-6 weeks with a shoulder injury.   Andy Moog was also out working with the goalies again today.

Avery vs. Brodeur tomorrow night.

October 21, 2008

I don’t think anyone will forget this from the last playoff series:

As Ludy put it “this is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen.”  Let us hope that tomorrow night when the Stars visit the Devils we don’t see this agian.  The Devils are off to a great start this season going 4-1 in their first 5 games.  Brodeur has some extra motivation this year, since this is the year he will probably become the winningest goaltender in NHL history.  Good job Brodeur!!!  Game starts at 6!

A few other notes…

For those who haven’t seen yet, the Stars will be holding only one Dr. Pepper Luncheon this year.  It will take place November 18th at the American Airlines Center.  You can even sit at the table with a player!  The new 3rd jersey’s will be unveiled that night, as well, so you’ll get to be the first people to see it in person.  You can purchase your tickets here.

Also, Ralphie was on NHL Live today and was asked when Lehtinen and Zubov are returning.  His answer:

Zubov probably November 1st-ish, Lehtinen probably next week.

Quick Addition: Just checked some of the scores from tonight and Smitty FINALLY got his first win of the season in net with Tampa Bay!  3-2 in overtime against the Thrashers!

Stars taking on the Avs

October 18, 2008

I have a few minutes before leaving to get to the game, so I thought I’d do a quick update.  It’s no secret that the Avs haven’t had a great start this season, either, starting it 1-3.  At least we’re 1-2-1.  The Stars had a hard practice yesterday, so tonight will be interesting!

Stars take on the Blues tonight

October 16, 2008

Stars will be taking on the St. Louis Blues for the first time this season in St. Louis.  It will be an interesting game after the greatness of last night.

I might do the first liveblog of the season tonight, we’ll see.

Also, the Mike Ribeiro billboard has been found; Pres. George Bush Turnpike near Midway, you can see it if you’re going westbound.  This one says “Allergic to Kryptonite”.  It’s 10 kinds of awesome.  I might make a field trip this weekend to get pictures of them all.

Stars take on Nashville….again

October 15, 2008

It’s only our 3rd game of the season and it’s already the second time we’re seeing the Preds.  What doesn’t seem right about this?  A lot, I think.  Here’s hoping it goes better than Saturday.  Even my friend, who is a die-hard Preds fan expected us to win Saturday, I think it came as a shock to everyone.  All I can say is “come on Stars, don’t let me down.”  I am tired of attending games where we lose, I would like to hear Stevie Ray Vaughn more.  Please and thank you.  I mean that.

On a side note, HOW BOUT LITTLE MITTENS?!  Tuesday night against the Atlanta Thrashers he scored 2 goals and got an assist!!  He is tied with Koivu for most points on the team at 4 (3 goals and 1 assist) and leads the team in goals.  Good boy Mittens, I knew you could do it.   I guess the birds he drew us for Caitlin’s Christmas present were flying north..

Game 4 tonight

May 14, 2008

So tonight is Game 4 of the Wings-Stars series.  The Stars season could end tonight, or could be extended to at least Saturday for a Game 5.  The game is broadcast on Versus, if you are in the D/FW metorplex and don’t have Versus, they are still holding watching parties for home games in the AT&T Plaza outside the AAC.

For those attending the game, I just have one plea: no matter the outcome, no matter if we are playing hard, making mistakes, not converting on a power play, please do not boo the players.  I heard the booing Monday.  And if this does infact end up being the Stars last home game, do you really want their last memory of their home crowd being the crowd booing them?  Just cheer them on like you’ve never cheered them before!  I have faith.

As for me, I’m just going to watch this game and enjoy the little things that make me love this team more and more everytime I see them play.  The way Mojangles jersey waves behind him like a little mini-mo flag, the way Ribeiro can lull the other team to sleep with his fancy schmancy plays, the way Morrownator can Morrownate anyone, and the fantastic saves Marty can make when the game is on the line.  Despite the score, I will find the greatness in this team tonight.

A little music anyone?

May 9, 2008

The Stars announced today that when the series comes back to Dallas, they will have some live music before and during the games.

Monday, May 12th the Grammy nominated Bowling for Soup will perform at the AT&T Plaza during the pre-game Party on the Plaza.  Then during the game, Vaden Todd Lewis (of The Toadies and the Burden Brothers) will do an acoustic set from the benches between periods.

Wednesday, May 14th the Stars fans The Old 97’s will perform during the pre-game party as well as during intermissions.
