What the hell?

February 3, 2009

So it seems I can’t stay away from wordpress.  While MVN is a fantastic website (kudos to Evan and all them), it just isn’t for me or this blog.  I just find it’s easier for me here, and well, personally think it fits the blog better.

I apologize for any confusion!  But we’re here to stay, I promise.  Unless I get uncheap and buy a domain, but that won’t be anytime in the near future.

I’m working now on getting all the categories straightened out, so bear with me!

Radio home of the Stars on the move

January 16, 2009

Goodbye WBAP and hello KTCK.  Yes, after 15 years on 820AM, the Stars are moving up the dial to 1310.

The agreement will begin in the 2009-10 season and they will broadcast all 82 games.  Some games will not have a pre-game, but all will have a post-game.  No worries though, Ralph and Razor are making the move as well.

You can see the full press release here.

2009 Calender is now available

December 23, 2008

The 2009 Modern Luxury Stars Calender is now for sale.  They began selling it at the game against the Blue Jackets Thursday and are now available at the Frisco Star Center as of yesterday.  Other Star Center’s should have it within the week I believe.  Being that I am currently without a scanner, I will just tell you who is what month

  • January – Nicklas Grossman & Matt Niskanen
  • February – Steve Ott
  • March –  Joel Lundqvist & Loui Eriksson
  • April – Mike Modano
  • May – Sergei Zubov
  • June – Jere Lehtinen
  • July – Marty Turco
  • August – Stephane Robidas
  • September – Trevor Daley
  • October – Brad Richards
  • November – Mike Ribeiro
  • December – Brenden Morrow

In other news, the Stars lost in overtime Saturday 5-4 against the Ottawa Senators.  The good news was that we got 1 point, and since it was an eastern conference team, we didn’t give any points up to a team also fighting for a playoff spot in the west.  The other fantastic news was Jere Lehtinen played and is finally off injured reserve.  Everyone celebrate!

The Avery difference

December 17, 2008

I am planning on this being my last post on Sean Avery on this blog for a while (until they announce what exactly they’re going to do with him, of  course).  But the difference between the Stars records with and without Sean is quite astounding.

Sean Avery played 23 games in a Stars uniform.

Games with Avery – 8-11-4
Games w/out Avery – 4-3

That is one game over .500 for those games without.  I know, that’s a 16 game difference, but the first 7 games with Avery the Stars had a record of 2-4-1

Of course, it’s not fair or realistic to put all the blame on Avery, but the numbers, I think, reflect on the negative impact he had on the team both on the ice and in the locker room.

Soon to come..

December 16, 2008

I feel as though I have neglected this dear blog lately, so here are a few things you can expect to see soon (other than the usual recaps and news).

  • The Dallas Stars Tour –  The New Guys
  • What wasn’t put into the Dallas Stars Yearbook*
  • What went down while the Stars prepared for their secret performance of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer*
*Just so we’re clear, this shit didn’t happen.

Is it possible Avery isn’t the only one leaving?

December 10, 2008

Puck Daddy posted a very interesting blog today

He quotes Ken Campbell who writes that it looks like Hull could also be leaving us as GM.

Several NHL sources have indicated that within the next couple of weeks the Stars’ co-GM experiment with Brett Hull and Les Jackson will be history. Speculation is Hull will move to another area of the organization and will be out of the decision making process when it comes to hockey matters.

I can’t say this surprises me.  I know Hull is a new GM, and was also using this time to learn the job that Jackson had least had some experience at, but where do you draw the line between ‘still learning’ and doing nothing?

Hull’s insistence on signing Avery in the face of opposition from everyone else in the hockey department will undoubtedly be a factor in the move, but sources also say Hull isn’t really fulfilling the GM duties beyond watching the Stars play.

You forgot eating, Ken.

Heika, however, is reporting the exact opposite, with a quote straight from Hicks.

As for rumors that Hicks is going to re-assign Hull, the owner said:

‘”I’ve heard that and it’s wrong. I have no plans to change the management team.”

Hmm..

Happy Birthday to Me

December 10, 2008

Well, not me but to this blog.  Yes, the first post ever made here was December 10th 2007.  And now one year, 443 posts and 30,217 views later I’m still going.  It doesn’t seem like it’s been that long.  Thanks to all of you who have actually visited the blog and made it at least…somewhat successful.  It’s greatly appreciated. :D

So, just for S&G’s, here the posts you have made my most popular.

The Dallas Stars Cast (3,867 views, seriously guys?)

And to those who have helped make this blog success, my top 5 referrers.

Andrew’s Stars Page

Penalty Killing
Untypical Girls
The Pensblog

And for more S&G’s, people have found this blog by mostly searching for Taran Noah Smith, Vincent Larusso, shootout wordpress, Mike Ribeiro and other various stars players.  I get quite a few for Brad Winchester, I guess he is still googling himself nonstop.  My favorites, however, are people who google shark noise and ric renner hair.  You people are my favorite.

So here’s to another year, hopefully I can keep it up.

Happy Halloween!

[edit: adding this because i just saw it on the NHL network and it’s awesome]

So, with it being Halloween and all I figured I’d use my psychic powers to predict what the Stars players would be for halloween, so I introduce to you
