Otter gets one-game suspension

March 2, 2009

And he served that one game in the loss to the Penguins yesterday.

As for a quick recap, the last few games have blown.  And that sucks.  A lot.  To the point that I don’t even want to watch the games.  The Stars travel to California today for games against the Sharks, Kings and Ducks.

I myself travel to California Wednesday, and will be in attendence at the Stars-Kings game Thursday at the Staples Center.  Cross your fingers it’s a good outcome.  Please.

Avery suspended 6 games

December 5, 2008

Word is in, and Avery will be receiving a 6-game suspension for his remarks Tuesday in Calgary.  He also will seek a professional anger-management evaluation and if needed will take structred counseling.

He will be eligible to play again December 16th, when the Coyotes are in town.

The Stars will meet and decide what to do when the suspension ends, which means his place on the team is still questionable.

Avery vs. Bettman – Thursday

December 3, 2008

Sean Avery and co-idiotmanager Brett Hull will be meeting have their hearing with Gary Bettman Thursday morning in NYC.  At least we’ll know tomorrow morning what exactly will become of Avery, at least from the NHL’s view.  There is still much to be said about his status on the Dallas Stars.

(yay i can finally update at the office)

Who is the most embarrassing in this situation?

December 2, 2008
Soap for Avery

Soap for Avery

“I am really happy to be back in Calgary, I love Canada,” Avery said on camera this morning in Calgary.  “I just want to comment on how it’s become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds. I don’t know what that’s about. Enjoy the game tonight.” [TSN.ca]

That is what was said in reference to Dion Phaneuf dating Avery’s ex Elisha Cuthbert and resulted in Sean Avery being suspended indefinitely.

So out of this entire situation, who would I be the most embarrassed about?

  1. Sean Avery
  2. Brett Hull
  3. Gary Bettman

It’s a tough decision, but we’ll start with who I think is the least embarrassing.  Believe it or not, I’m going with Sean Avery.  Sure, it’s embarrassing he went and got himself suspended for something as stupid as a comment regarding a certain Calgary Flame and ex-girlfriend, but that’s who he is.  He is known to cause trouble and get attention, in both classless and stupid ways.  It’s who he is.  It doesn’t make it right and I’m not excusing his comments or condoning them, but that’s just him.

The next most embarrassing would be Gary Bettman.  A suspension?  Really?  I understand his side of it, don’t get me wrong, but it seems like the stupidest reason to suspend someone ever.  Had Sean Avery directly insulted said Flame and ex-girlfriend I would understand it more.  He just simply decided to state something that is fact in an extremely classless way for attention.  That is all.  A simple quote, as classless as it may be, doesn’t seem to be suspension worthy to me.

So we get to he who is the most embarrassing in this entire situation, that would be you Mr. Brett Hull.  He is who got us into this.  The entire league knows how Sean Avery is, so it’s not like this should be a surprise to anyone.  However, Brett Hull disregarded that and decided to sign him anyway.  He assumed he could get Sean Avery to tone it down and not embarrass the team.  Is it just me or does that seem extremely naive?  Sean Avery is a big boy, he should know when to close his mouth, but he doesn’t.  The entire league knows this, I’m sure Brett Hull knew this.   And in part to the signing of Avery, (amoung other actions taken by our lovely Co-GM’s) we are now the joke of the entire hockey league.  We are now stuck with him, because what other team will want him on their roster?

Michael Peca suspended indefinitely

October 11, 2008

I had wondered last night why a player got a 10-minute game misconduct, and now I see why.  Michael Peca of the Columbus BlueJackets was automatically suspended for Physical Abuse of the Officials.  Damn I’m sad I missed that, but thank goodness I have it DVRed and will be watching.

He is appealing the suspension, but is going to remain suspended until a hearing next week.

Well that sucked

March 14, 2008

I’m not even sure I want to talk about the 5-3 loss to Detroit last night.  Dallas goals were scored by Trevor Daley, Jere Lehtinen and Brenden Morrow.  Turco looks great in the first 2 periods.  Though, at the end of the 2nd after the Wings scored their second goal, the Stars seemed to go into panic mode; as they do whenever we play the Wings.  It was awful from that point on.  Does much else need to be said?  No.

In other annoying news, have you seen this video yet?

Now, I didn’t actually see this game.  All I have seen in the YouTube video.  But it does look an awful lot like an intentional stomp on my poor Midget’s friend Kesler.  Oh, and no suspension will come of it.  Something seem not right here? Seems Pronger had a meeting today.  So we’ll see how many games he gets suspended.  Chris Simon recieved 30 games for a similar incident in December.

I’m actually surprised, considering Campbell has handed out 4 suspensions since Tuesday.  I’m beginning to think he has a certain quota to fill when it comes to suspensions, because they seem to be coming swiftly this season.

The better news is that Mr Mike Modano has entered the blogging world.  You can find his blog on the Dallas Stars website.

Steve Ott Suspended

March 11, 2008

Yep, for 3 games for his hit on Leopold Saturday.

Here is the video (it’s not the fight, but they show the actual hit)

Otter is not a dirty player, he just has a dirty mouth.  It is really unfortunate that Leopold got hurt.  I think one game would’ve been enough for a first-time offender, since it seems he briefly left his feet.  I do not, however, believe that Ott intended to injure Leopold, it’s just that Leopold bending over put Ott’s shoulder and arm right by his head.  To me (though I could be biased and I’m trying not to be now that I’m over my original anger) it doesn’t look like Otter wasn’t aiming at his head.

Oh, and San Jose is now top of the Division.

The better news is that the Tampa Bay Lightning won tonight against the New York Islanders. Halpie had 3 points (a goal and 2 assists) and Jussi had an assist. Yay boys!!
