Game on!

4 in a row?

February 3, 2009

Who would’ve thought it’d finally happen!  With the pounding Columbus recieved in the Stars 7-3 victory.  In that game, Brian Sutherby and Andrew Hutchinson got their first goals as Stars!  Way to go guys!

As it stands now,the Stars are now 6th in the Conference.  WE ARE IN A PLAYOFF SPOT Y’ALL!!!

This streak has been because our best players have been our best players.  In the last 4 games, all but 4 Stars have registered a point and 7 players have at least 4 points in the last 4 games.  Ribeiro and Ott lead with 3 goals and 3 assists each!  Marty Turco has also been playing amazing; having a 1.25 GAA and .948 SV% in these last four games.

It seems luck is finally changing for these Stars, and it couldn’t have come at a better time.  Maybe we’ll actually win on my birthday this year?

Halfway through the season…

January 19, 2009

Last season, I did a post showing where everyone was after exactly half a season of play, 41 games.  I did it again this year.  I actually spent about 2 hours getting it all in order last week but kept forgetting to post it.  We’re not a few games past the mid-season point, but whatevs.  Here is what the standings looked like.

Michael Peca suspended indefinitely

October 11, 2008

I had wondered last night why a player got a 10-minute game misconduct, and now I see why.  Michael Peca of the Columbus BlueJackets was automatically suspended for Physical Abuse of the Officials.  Damn I’m sad I missed that, but thank goodness I have it DVRed and will be watching.

He is appealing the suspension, but is going to remain suspended until a hearing next week.

That’s not a good way to start a season

October 11, 2008

The optimist in me is saying “At least we got a point” but in the hard Pacific division, 1 point isn’t enough.

It seemed a little too familiar, the other team takes the lead, we come back in the second to tie then take the lead, only to have the other team tie it up and we fall apart and fall behind again.  Remember that from last season?  I guess it’s easy to fall back into old habits.

We almost pulled it out, after falling down 4-2 in the third, the Stars managed 2 goals just over 30 seconds between them.  But, it wasn’t enough.  With just 21 seconds left in overtime, Rick Nash sealed the deal for the BlueJackets.

There were some great, great plays by the Stars; like the whole second period and the last 4 minutes of the third, but they need to play like that the entire game.  The fire doesn’t get lit until they get behind, and that needs to be fixed.

I guess I could mention who scored the Stars goals huh?  Brenden Morrow got the first goal from Ribeiro and Robidas.  James Neal scored second, Robi got another assist on that.  I’m really really glad James Neal got to stay, he deserves it and is going to be a fantastic player on our team, especially with Mike Modano.  He also played with Sean Avery, who looked like the clumsiest person ever on the ice.  Avery was falling around all over the play, he did have some good set ups though.  Brad Richards got a goal in the 3rd period to make it 4-3 BlueJackets with Robidas and Lundqvist getting the assist.  Then 30 seconds later, Daley got a goal from Ribeiro and Modano.

Hopefully tonight against the Preds goes better.

The 3 stars of the night were

  1. Pascal Leclaire
  2. Stephane Robidas
  3. Rick Nash

I have more people to add to the shitlist, including every ref and linesman from last night for not calling interference on the dude who LAYED on Mike Modano for like a minute.

Stars lose, 4-2

January 23, 2008

After the events of yesterday there isn’t much I want to say about this game.  (And by events I mean the sudden passing of Heath Ledger.)  Stars lost.  And may Razor never leave us for VS. again.  Ever.

First goal of the game came from the PBC line with Morrow getting the goal and Mittens and Ribbons getting the assist.  Our 2nd goal was scored by Steve Ott assisted by Daley and Jew.  The Blue Jackets countered with 4 unanswered goals, Kris Russell scored Columbus’ first and third goal, his first and second goal ever in the NHL.  Good for you kid, and I mean that.  Seriously, even though I’m mad you got the game winning goal causing us to lose.

Oh, and Brenden was the third star of the night.

Now more All-Star news, seems more and more people are falling off the ASG bandwagon.  Tyler Kennedy, the pig looking one of the Pittsburgh Penguins has contracted mono so he will be missing the game.   David Clarkson of the New Jersey Devils will be taking his place.

Stars looking to sweep the series

January 21, 2008

Tomorrow night Dallas and Columbus will be meeting for the 4th and final time this season.  So far the Stars are 3-0, dominating games against our former coach, Ken Hitchcock, and his team.

No one likes to be sweeped, so despite their heavy travel schedule this past week you can expect the Blue Jackets to try to come out strong and get Dallas off their game early.  Will they have enough energy to actually get it done?  They have traveled back and forth for the past 4 days, playing in Phoenix on the 17th, in Dallas on the 19th, in Colorado on the 20th and back to Dallas for their game tomorrow.  The Blue Jackets are currently 1-2 on their 5-game road trip.

And the current streaks for the Stars is as follows:

  • Brenden Morrow – earning 4 points in his last 3 games
  • Jeff Halpern – earning 1 point in each of his last 3 games
  • Stu Barnes – earning 1 point in each of his last 2 games
  • Antti Miettinen – earning 1 point in each of his last 2 games
  • Mike Ribeiro – earning 4 points in his last 3 games

Stars extend winning streak to 2

January 19, 2008

Stars had a good start to their 4-game home stand by undressing the Blue Jackets 3-1.

Smith got the start in net, and played a fantastic game, making some amazing key saves in the third. Brenden Morrow started the scoring with a sick pass from Antti Miettinen from behind the net. Ribeiro also got the assist. Stu Barnes (from Krys Barch) got the Stars a 2 goal lead 10 minutes into the 2nd. Blues countered with just 20 seconds left in the period with a power play goal from Nikolai Zherdev, Jason Chimera and Michael Peca got the assists. Steve Ott sealed the win in the 3rd with a goal from Jeff Halpern and Nicklas Grossman.

The Stars played a solid came. Rookie B.J. Crombeen (who made his NHL debut today) got on the scoresheet in the 3rd after fighting with Jared Boll with Steve Ott egging him on from the bench.

The three stars of the night were

  1. Mike Smith – stopping 29 of 30 shots
  2. Nikolai Zherdev – 1 goal
  3. Stu Barnes – 1 goal

  • Loui Eriksson ended a 3-game point streak, earning 5 points in the 3 previous games
  • Niklas Hagman ended a 2-game point streak, earning 5 points in the 2 previous games
  • Jeff Halpern is now on a 2-game point streak
  • Mike Modano ended a 5-game point streak, earning 8 points in the previous 5 games, all on the road
  • Brenden Morrow is now on a 2-game point streak
  • Mike Ribeiro is now on a 2-game point streak

Stars take on the Anaheim Ducks tomorrow at 2:30pm.

Sergei Zubov will be having an MRI on his foot Monday according to Heika.

Stars take on the Blue Jackets

January 19, 2008

The Stars take on the Columbus Blue Jackets Saturday at 1pm..  This is the third meeting this season between the two teams, but first in the AAC.  Stars have owned the series so far, winning both games played out scoring Columbus 5-3.

I will be attending the game so probably won’t have a recap up until late, same for the Ducks game Sunday (which is at 2:30.)

Also, for those who haven’t seen the Dr Pepper Luncheon scheduled for Monday with Dave Tippett, Phillipe Boucher and Mike Smith has been canceled.  No reason given, but there you go.  So if you have tickets, don’t show up otherwise you will feel stupid.
