It’s now official, Sean Avery’s stint as a Star is done

December 14, 2008

The Dallas Stars announced today that Sean Avery will no longer play for the Dallas Stars.  A decision most could see coming.

Here is the full press release.

(Dallas, TX December 14, 2008) – The Dallas Stars today announced that Sean Avery will not return to the NHL team. Representatives for both Avery and the Stars said they would continue to work together in support of Avery during “this critical time” for the player. All parties said there is a clear understanding that a return to the Stars is not in the best interest of either the hockey club or Avery.

“Sean needs to focus on his own well-being while the Stars hockey team must focus on playing hockey and competing for a playoff spot,” said Stars Co-General Manager Brett Hull. “Everyone understands that Sean will not return to the Dallas Stars. We all need to move forward.”

Stars management also said the team would not seek to challenge Avery’s contract under the conduct clause included in the Standard Player’s Contract.  The agreement’s Paragraph 2 (e) directs all NHL players “to refrain from conduct detrimental to the best interest of the Club, the League or professional hockey generally.” Avery was suspended by the NHL last week for comments he made prior to a game with Calgary.

“The message here is: no distractions. Sean can focus on resolving his personal issues,” said Hull, “and the Stars will have closure on this episode. The team needs to put its energies into winning.”

The Stars said the team will continue to honor Avery’s contract while exploring all options for his hockey future consistent with the terms of his counseling.

“We do care about Sean and want what is best for him,” said Hull. “We’ve agreed to do what we can to help find him a place to play hockey once he addresses his personal issues.”

In addition to announced their decision with Avery, the Stars also made another trade; Brian Sutherby from the Ducks for David McIntyre and a conditional sixth round draft pick in 2010.  Seriously?  They also reassigned Dan Jancevski to the minors.

Brenden, why you say that?

December 12, 2008

Brenden Morrow was on BaD radio yesterday for his usual conversation with the guys.  (Andrew’s has audio of it here)

It’s the first we’ve gotten to hear from Brenden regarding the whole Avery ordeal, in which, as a true captain, he said that Avery is a teammate and until he hears otherwise, he will defend him.   However, he did say that what Avery did was wrong and it isn’t how the Stars want to be perceived and everyone makes mistakes.

He also mentioned his knee surgery, saying recovery is harder than he thought it’d be.  The pain medication they had him on was playing mind games, giving him bad thoughts and nightmares.  He stopped taking them and is now just using tylenol.

“I thought about cutting my leg off, amputating it.  It wasn’t pretty the thoughts I had.”

Way to break my heart Brenden!  Please leave your leg on.

Also, rumors going around that the Rangers are interested in trading Michal Rozsival for Avery back.

Stars trade for ANOTHER defenseman.

November 30, 2008

The Stars announced today they have traded Lauri Tukonen for Andrew Hutchinson from Tampa Bay.

By the end of the season, we’re going to have an entire new team.

I oversleep and this is what I wake up to?

November 16, 2008

The Stars have traded Philippe Boucher (OMG Patty I is so sorry) to Pittsburgh for Darryl Sydor. This will be Syd’s 3rd time playing on the Stars, so welcome back.  I do love Syd, but not so sure how I feel about him coming with BooBoo as an expense :(

I’m currently watching the Phoenix game, I was out last night.  Will have a recap soon.

Few interesting tid-bits

October 30, 2008

So, this is a tad important. The NHL has moved the trade deadline from March 3rd to March 4th. The reasoning is that there are fewer games played on the 4th.  Just an extra day to stress about trades, imo.

Sean Avery has chosen Ryan Gosling to play him in the movie New Line Cinema is basing on his time spent at Vogue.  Wow.

Our boy Niklas Hagman helped lead the Maple Leafs to a 6-5 win in the shootout against the Devils last night, by snowing Brodeur.  He said after the game he wasn’t trying to get any snow in his face, that it was just a move he’d been trying in practice.  Either way, it’s pretty funny and judging by the smile on Brodeur’s face, he thought it was too.  Though i wouldn’t be laughing at Hagman’s laser eyes staring into me after the goal.

Hei! We have a new Finn!

July 22, 2008

Okay, a new Finnish prospect, but YAY FINN!!   The Stars traded LW Richard Clune to the Los Angeles Kings for RW Lauri Tukonen.

You can read all the info on the Stars site regarding game statistics and not what, I’m just happy to have a Finn.

Brad Richards and Johan Holmqvist to Dallas

February 26, 2008

It is with a sad and heavy heart to report that HullJack have traded Jeff Halpern, Jussi Jokinen and Mike Smith for center Brad Richards and goalie Johan Holmqvist from Tampa Bay.

I will not lie that I am not pleased about this trade, at all. I lost Halpie and Juicy in one felt swoop.

So with this sadness, I think it is now time to say goodbye to 2 of my favorite players, and Smitty.

Boo Boo officially off injured reserve

February 25, 2008

Patty was not the only one celebrating this; though I’m sure she was probably the loudest! I know we are all extremely excited to finally have Boucher back in our line up!!!! HEY HEY BOO BOO GLAD YOU’RE BACK!

nooobrenden.pngI don’t know if you noticed this during the games Friday and Saturday, but it is a no no. Brenden Morrow was apparently wacked in the eye during practice Thursday. As I said, this is a no no. It seems I need to have a talk with someone about proper Morrownator etiquette.

In other news, TSN is reporting that Stars are offering Tampa Bay a large package (that includes Mike Smith) for Brad Richards. All I have to say about this is no. No no no no no no no no no. NO! (And I swear to Baby Hockey Jesus if I find out Mittens is involved in this I will go balistic. At least I know Brenden is safe.)

Niskanen is a Youngstar, Stars make a trade

January 15, 2008

The NHL has named the rookie’s for this years Youngstars game.  Our little Matt Niskanen was chosen.  Aren’t we all so proud?  Youngstars rosters are as follows:

Tobias Enstrom (Atlanta Thrashers)
Kris Letang (Pittsburgh Penguins)
Mike Lundin (Tampa Bay Lightning)
Marc Staal (New York Rangers)

Nicklas Backstrom (Washington Capitals)
Brandon Dubinsky (New York Rangers)
Tyler Kennedy (Pittsburgh Penguins)
Milan Lucic (Boston Bruins)

Alexander Edler (Vancouver Canucks)
Erik Johnson (St. Louis Blues)
Jack Johnson (Los Angeles Kings)
Matt Niskanen (Dallas Stars)

Sam Gagner (Edmonton Oilers)
Patrick Kane (Chicago Blackhawks)
Peter Mueller (Phoenix Coyotes)
David Perron (St. Louis Blues)

First of all, don’t let the subject make your stomach drop like it did mine when I first heard it.  Stars have traded right wing Junior Lessard for defensiveman Dan Jancevski from Tampa Bay.  Jancevski was originally drafted by the Stars in 1999, mostly playing in Iowa.  He wore the C for Iowa in the ’05-’06 season.
